Ministry for Adults: Growing as Disciples

The primary purpose of adult ministry at FBC is to help adults to grow as disciples of Jesus. We are a wonderful mix of believers, seekers, and skeptics. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey there is a place for you. We believe that God is at work in all of us and that we are each evolving in our understanding and experience of the Creator. In response, we offer a wide variety of classes on Sunday mornings at 9:50 a.m. and small groups at various times throughout the week. New groups are continually forming, so watch this web site or contact JP Bierly for the latest opportunities.
Fall Season Sunday a.m. Classes
- Berean Class taught by Dr. Bill Millar (professor of religious studies at Linfield College). This class has an academic bent and is for those who desire to explore traditional and non-traditional perspectives on the Bible and faith.
- Bridgebuilders Class taught by Frank Nelson (Frank taught philosophy at Linfield and is a life long student of the Bible). This class explores wide range of topics related to the Bible and living our faith.
- Chapel Class has rotated offerings based on the church season or current emphasis in worship. Recent offerings have included a series on Faith & the Environment, Faith Forums on topics such as the Inter-faith Letters of Thomas Merton, an Advent study, Bible 101: The Old Testament, Michelangelo as Theologian, Martin Luther King, Jr., as Theologian, and Habitat for Humanity: Building our Faith. In February a four-week series entitled "An Introduction to Social Justice Issues" will be facilitated by Kim Kushner.
- Faith and Java. A focus on practices and principles of achieving a first hand experience of God in order to share that love and compassion with others. The group describes themselves as, "A great place for conversation, support, and fresh brewed coffee." Facilitated by Rob Schulman.
- Rainbow Class. Designed to meet the interests of people with special needs. Facilitated by Laura Park.
Short term classes offered several times per year. Recent offerings include: Spirituality & Aging, "What Does it Mean to be a Progressive Christian?", Media and Its Influence on the Family, Faith and the Environment, a book study with Three Cups of Tea, and Kerygma Bible Studies (in depth studies).
Mid Week Groups are continually emerging on a wide range of topics. The focus of groups is to help people grow spiritually, experience community, and be of service to others. See calendar or contact Office Manager Donna Weed for latest listings.
